To Plan or Not to Plan
Do you have a one-year, three-year, five-year or 10-year plan? If so, I’m sorry to say, those plans will most likely end up being blown to smithereens.
I always hated that question when it was asked in an interview. “Where do you see yourself in five years?” My response should have been, “Hell if I know!” Because five years ago in 2012, being a business owner and a published author weren’t even remotely on my radar. Not until life threw me an unexpected curve ball – one that I’m sure you’ll get thrown to you as well.
Steve Jobs once said, “You can’t connect the dots going forward, only looking back.” Make a plan for your life’s vision and general direction. But don’t try to map out every single step that has to take place to get there and set it in stone. Events, whether in life or career, will happen beyond your control. Just roll with punches and know that when that curve ball is thrown at you, you will need to have the courage to adjust your course.
