Off To the Land of Fire and Ice

SURPRISE, friends! I have arrived in Iceland!

Call me crazy, but I decided earlier in the year that my 35th birthday (two days ago on August 4) wouldn’t suck to help easy the sting of entering my “mid”-30s. I wanted to go do something fun, cool and different. And my answer turned out to be Iceland.

Iceland has honestly never been on my bucket list of places to visit. To, me it was all about volcanos, glaciers and Björk. But over the last year, I’ve heard more and more about the amazing scenery, food and culture in the land of fire and ice. After my curiosity got the best of me (as it usually does) and I started researching, I was sold.

So, for the next week, I’ll be traveling around Reykjavik and northern Iceland solo on an adventure I never thought I’d have the guts to do but I’m doing anyway (yea girl power!). I’ll try to post updates as often as I can and share the cool stuff I encounter. Maybe I’ll even inspire someone else to visit Iceland!

Today, August 6, is the beginning of my Arctic adventure and takes me to Toronto! Yes, I’m going through another country to get to another country where I was able to book a direct flight from Toronto to Reykjavik on Icelandair. Surprisingly, the flight is only a little over five hours going there are a little over four hours coming back. Nothing compared to our long-haul to Japan in March!

When I got through security and to my gate I was sooooo happy to see this little slice of heaven. David’s Tea is one of my favs and one had appeared right next to my gate. I took it as a sign that this trip was meant to be. :)

The necessities.

Beautiful Greenland

My first impression of Iceland is that it’s got a super nice airport, customs was amazingly efficient and I got my bag right away. So far, two thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻!

Plus, as I type this on the bus to Reykjavik (45 min. from airport), it’s still light out at 12:23 a.m. So, I guess I’ve rolled into Aug. 7 (HAPPY BIRTHDAY BENJ!!!)

Till tomorrow, friends!
